Genealogy General Information
The Clan Society aims to build up a
history of the Clan and its scattered representatives across the world in three
main ways: research of the wider historical record; the Clan DNA project; and
research and recording of Clan Society members’ own histories, in which your own
efforts as a Clan Society member will play a key part, alongside the work of the
Clan genealogists. Data from the initial researches included in your society
application form will (unless otherwise indicated) be included in Clan Society
records.
Members' Further Researches
Once you have
joined the society you are encouraged to extend your initial researches and
submit further genealogical data for the records, where feasible. The clan
genealogists stand ready to help, should you need advice or guidance on how to
pursue further enquiries. They will also be pleased to deal with enquiries on
the history of the Clan within their own regions.
Submitting Additional Genealogical Information
You can submit additional genealogical information for the Clan’s records either
in the guise of our online genealogy form or, if you prefer, our PDF genealogy
form, as explained below. Note that both variants are subject to restricted
access, meaning only current members in possession of their unique username and
password can gain access to them. If you are an existing member and have yet to
receive your unique username and password, then please contact your Branch
Secretary or the appropriate Deputy Chief's Lieutenant, who on your behalf, will
request the information from the webmaster.
Online Genealogy Form
(existing
members only)
You will normally submit an
online genealogy form
to the genealogist for the branch which handled your application form, as each
branch has its own genealogist. The branch genealogist will process the
information you submit and add it to his local records/database. Where
appropriate the branch Genealogist will work in conjunction with the Clan
Genealogist. (If you are in any doubt as to who to send the online genealogy
form to, then please contact the
Clan Chief,
who can
advise you further).
PDF Genealogy
Form:
(existing members only)
If you prefer, we
also offer a PDF genealogy form,
which you can complete and print out at your leisure. Once completed, you will
need to post it to the appropriate address shown below, depending on which
branch of the Society (and therefore which genealogist), you wish to send the
information to. Your form will then be forwarded on to the relevant genealogist,
by the receiving branch officer.
Extended
Genealogy - Clan Chiefs
If you are an existing member, you can now access a copy of the 'Extended Genealogy of the
Clan Chiefs'. This document, which has been produced by our Clan Genealogist Mr
John Faid, is an extensive and meticulously prepared insight into the
genealogical structure of the Clan Chiefs and is comprised of three parts. Please refer to our
PDF downloads
page for further details.
Members: Please post your completed PDF Genealogy Forms to
the appropriate branch address, as shown below

Genealogy Team
Our genealogy team is comprised of Mr John Faid, our Clan Genealogist and UK Branch Genealogist,
and our other Branch Genealogists as shown below. The Genealogists collate and
record data received from their own branches' members, but also share their
knowledge, as appropriate, to enrich and extend our historical knowledge of the
Clan.
The Clan Genealogist has overall responsibility for the Clan records. If you
wish to contact a Branch Genealogist directly, just click on the appropriate
link below.
